Keynote Speaker Kay Toliver
With more than 27 years of teaching
grades one through eight in East Harlem, Kay Toliver has
developed the philosophy: “All students can
learn. It is a teacher’s job to expand minds and take
children from the known to the unknown.”
Toliver is a Senior
Associate of the Foundation for Advancement in Science &
Education (FASE), she has created a FASE-produced instructional
television series The Eddie Files, and has
received numerous awards including
the Presidential Award in
Secondary Mathematics, the Disney American Teacher Award, and
the Reliance Award for Excellence in Education.
The Association
of Mathematics Teachers of the Rochester Area
is an organization dedicated to the support of mathematics teachers
at all levels. Its purpose is fourfold:
-
to ensure better
coordination of all activities of mathematics groups in the
region,
-
to afford a medium
of exchange of view regarding the teaching of mathematics (K
- 16),
-
to further the
cooperative study of problems relating to the teaching of mathematics
at all four levels: elementary, junior high, senior high, and
college,
-
to encourage
active interest in mathematics and mathematics education.
AMTRA
was organized in 1976 and currently has over 300 members.
