What does
AMT3RA have to offer you? Here are just a few of the
70 sessions we will be offering:
Elementary School Level
- Martha
Bjorklund & Diane Broberg of the Allendale
Columbia School will help you learn ways to connect math
with literature. You will leave their session with
activities you can use Monday morning in your classroom.
- Khieta
Davis of the Rochester City School District will have
you playing with color tiles, Cuisenaire rods, and base ten
blocks to create concrete connections between fractions and
decimals.
- Sue
Stanish from Pittsford’s Allen Creek School will help
you develop your students skills of measurement while
comparing volume, area, and weight with Medieval Dragon
Math. Participants will walk away with a packet of ideas
for theme related / literature based math activities.
- Kurt
Whited from South Portland, Maine is traveling to
Rochester to show you the brand new Investigations 2008.
Participants will play with the new games and activities.
Middle School Level
- Jeremy
Duntley teaches at the Calkins Road Middle School in
Pittsford. Join him to explore new ways to plant the seeds
of infinity in your middle level classroom. The ideas of
limiting values and infinite process will soon be growing in
your students’ brains!
- Dana
Morse was a hit at our last technology conference hosted
at St. John Fisher. He is traveling back from Skaneateles
to wow you again with TI SmartView. Learn how to make
worksheets with screen captures and script lessons for
playback. Participants should bring a USB Drive to steal
some of Dana’s lessons!
- Sharon
Mosher from Honeoye Falls – Lima High School will use
bubblegrams, the Frayer model, and semantic feature analysis
to help you develop vocabulary with your students.
Participants will write activities for their own classrooms.
- Bev
Voos, 7th grade math teacher at Spry Middle
School in Webster is going to show you how she has learned
to use the TI Navigator in her classroom this year. You get
to play with M&M’s as you use the TI-73 with the Navigator
to collect data and create graphs.
High School Level
- What do
you know about APPS? Vince Doty is traveling from
Canastota to show you how AreaForm, Transfm, and Inequalz
can be your pedagogical assistants in the classroom. You
will also see TI SmartView as a presentation tool.
- Gene
Olmstead is coming to us from Elmira to help teachers
help their students make connections between what he
considers our two most important math courses – Algebra and
Geometry. With the use of new technology, we now have the
ability to connect these two courses like never before. No
experience is necessary, only the desire to learn!
- Kim
Waterbury from Pittsford Mendon High School started
using the TI-Navigator System in November. Her session
titled “Newbies Helping Newbies” will give basic lessons and
advice to those just learning about the system.
- Greg
Williams from Maury High School in Norfolk, Virginia is
giving two workshops using the Navigator system. The old
idea of paper folding is brought back to life with the power
of technology to help collect, distribute, and analyze
data. His other workshop uses probability and statistics
APP to figure out why the dice are die-ing.
Upper Level / College
- Bill
Caroscio, past AMTNYS President, is coming in from
Elmira to explore how new technology tools enhance our
ability to problem solve. Using numeric, algebraic, and
geometric representations of a problem situation can
drastically increase student learning and understanding.
- Tony
Martellotta teaches AP Statistics, Pre-Calculus, and
Algebra 2 at Pittsford Mendon High School. He also served
as an adjunct professor at RIT’s College of Science. He
will guide you through an exploration of uncertainty using
simulation, experiment, and creative approaches.

of Rochester will use videos and scripts to explore what it
means to foster classroom conversation that focuses on
mathematical ideas.

Penfield High School teacher will have you explore
mathematical concepts, develop writing skills, and foster
artistic thinking at the same time.

and hard of hearing. Participants will learn signs for
basic math vocabulary and have the opportunity to practice
signing simple math problems.
